Shechem!

That's a Hebrew word in case you didn't know.

The word Shechem as a noun literally means shoulder. There was in ancient times a city called Shechem. It is the place that God told Abram that he would give him all of the land before him and that he would make his descendants as numerous as the stars. Later on Joshua, the successor of Moses, brought the people back to Shechem to serve as a reminder to them to not forget where they come from.

It’s kind of a crazy story how this word became a regular part of my vocabulary. I’ll tell more about that elsewhere. Suffice it say for now that Shechem to me means to remember where you came from.

And So It Begins

This is my epic quest, lol. It began after my father passed away in 2014. Mom was downsizing so that she could move into her condo and I found myself grabbing up any of my dad's belongings that were sentimental. A part of that was a bag full of family history and genealogy info that was compiled by his cousin Karen. This fascinated me. I have always been a treasure hunter. Not necessarily things of monetary worth but things with history and character. I began looking into my family history on all sides and this huge mystery began to develop.
